    We've decided to open up all our activities to both members as well as non-members, Engs or non-Engs. Please feel free to bring friends or family along.

    2008 Calendar

    February 9 & 10—Volunteer for the Floral Street fair of Monterey Park
    Details: http://floralstreetfair.org/. Currently looks like we will be volunteering at the kid's arts craft area. We may also be doing some supervisory activities supervising younger volunteers. After or before volunteering, we'll hang out at the fair and have a blast.

    March 1—Dinner in Monterey Park.
    Details: Casual realaxing dinner

    April 27—Spring Banquet of the Eng Family Association
    Place: Empress Pavilion restaurant in Chinatown.
    Contact: Janice Ng or Wayne Ng
    Time: 5:30pm
    Details: Eng family will have their annual spring banquet. NGG members are needed to volunteer for Emcee, an entertainment item (e.g. singing a song, doing a play, etc. ), and also for set up. There will be an ancestral ceremony at the association at noon for those whom would like to attend. Lunch is served there.

    May—Weekend Las Vegas getaway!
    Place: From Southern California to LasVegas then back

    Details: We will be staying at the Venetian (thanks to David's contacts) at a great rate. It'll be a weekend of food and fun. Those whom would like to carpool, we'll carpool, those whom wish to fly may also feel free to. Some of the group will attend a Phamtom of the Opera show and then go backstage to learn more about the production of the show.

    June—Eng Family Association Parents luncheon an Chinese American Museum (CAM) visit
    Place - Golden Dragon

    Details: We will be honoring our parents or parents of the Eng Family at this luncheon. We'll put on a short entertainment item and help set up. After the lunch, we will head over to the Chinese American Museum (1 mile away) to learn more about Chinese American History.

    July 12—Beach volleyball and BBQ at Rick's!

    Details: Following on the trememdous success and fun we had last year at Rick's place, Rick has again opened up his home to host the Beach volley ball and BBQ day.

    August—Career workshop for highschool students
    Place - Monterey Park
    Contact: Rick Eng
    Details: NGG along with Chinese American Citizen's Alliance Youth Council (CACA YC) will be hosting a career workshop for highschool kids. Target attendance is 40 kids. The event will consist of a panel of different people in different careers where each panelist speaks for 5 minutes about their job, experience, requirements of the job then we will bring out into sessions on various different topics such as resume writing, mock interviews. During break, all the panelist will sit at a table each and kids who would like to learn more about the career of the panelist may choose to speak with the panelist in more detail.

    September—Contemporary Art walk in Chinatown
    Place - Chinatown

    Details: Chinatown is home to over 10 different contemporary Art galleries. The goal is to host an art walk which will culminate with a reception at a gallery. We aim to collaborate with different groups on this project and perhaps even make it into a fund raiser for a non-profit of our choice.

    November—Thanksgiving luncheon at the Association
    Place: Association headquarters in Chinatown

    Details: We will once again honor our elders by preparing the food for this luncheon. Last year's thanksgiving was a success!

    December—Annual NGG Christmas dinner

    Please check often on our website for updated details and dates of our calendar.

    Other activities which will appear on the NGG 2008 calendar include:

    1. Baseball game with kids. We will bring kids to a baseball game during baseball season.
    2. A seminar with NGG will host to reach out to residents of Monterey Park in order to help spread the word that Chinatown will be having a high school.
    3. Night out in town - dinner followed by a concert or theatre.
    4. Joining a sponsored walk - e.g. march of dimes

    Other items:

    NGG T-shirts—NGG T-shirts will be made for those whom are interested. Approximate cost is between $10-$25 per shirt. Rick has kindly offered to donate the white T-shirts which will defry the cost. Rick will also design the T-shirts. David will use his contacts to get us a low price.

    Collaboration with the Wong family—the Wong Family are kickstarting their next generation group this year. The Wong next generation group will be joining all NGG events. We also look forward to attending Wong's next generation group events.

    Members of the Eng/Ng Family Benevolent Association's Next Generation Group (NGG) are encourage to invite guests who may have an interest in becoming involved with charting the course of their family association in the 21st Century. Please respond as soon as possible in order to accurately determine the amount food and beverages required for the day's event.
