Home/2004 World Convention
Review: 2004 World Eng Family Association ConventionThe 2004 World Convention was held in Taishan City from October 21 to October 24. Over 700 members, friends and guest attended the Convention. Many members left their village in Taishan District many decades ago and this was their first trip back. A chance to visit their old village, and finally able to meet their old childhood friends and neighbors again.
At the convention it was all fun and games and food. We did take timeout to elect Eric Ng of New York to be the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of the World Eng Family Association. Officials from Suzhou province presented to the members plans for the construction of the Memorial Garden to honor the Ng Zisui, our Ancestral Father. The garden will cost about $1,875,000 to develop. They asked the Engs to donate as much as they can, and the Chinese Government will contribute the balance. Many of the Los Angeles delegation attended the groundbreaking ceremony the following week. Peter Ng of Los Angeles, our U. S. Grand National President, addressed the attendees on behalf of the World Eng Family Association.
Ng Zisui is honored and revered by the people in Suzhou province. During the Warring State Period in Chinese History, Suzhou was part of the Wu Kingdom. Ng Zisui was a great advisor and general to the Emperor of the Wu Kingdom. For more info see the “Legend of Ng Zisui” in our website.
The next world convention will be held either at Taishan City, Jiangman (about 35 minutes from Taishan City) or Suzhou in October of 2007.
The following is a complete group photo of the Eng Family Reunion in Taishan.
