Eng Family Student ScholarshipsThe annual Eng Family Benevolent Association Los Angeles Student Scholarship awards monies to students of Eng/Ng/Wu Family ancestry in good civic standing and academic excellence. In addition to submitting report cards of their academic year beginning in Fall 2008 and ending in June 2009, qualified applicants are required to perform a project.
This year applicants either made visits to the Chinese American Museum or the Chinese Historical Society of Southern California and wrote about their experiences. Sixteen students fulfilled this requirement. Presentation of scholarships will be held at a special noon-time luncheon on Sunday, September 12, 2010, at the Eng Family Benevolent Association Headquarters at 418 Cottage Home, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Their essays also will be available on display at the awards ceremony.
See the 2010 Recipients of the Student Scholarship Awards.
The Chinese American Museum (CAM) is the first museum in Southern California dedicated to the Chinese American experience and history in this region. The Chinese American Museum is located in the red-bricked historic Garnier Building, located at El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument across from downtown Los Angeles’ Union Station.
The Chinese Historical Society of Southern California was created to discover and recognize the Chinese American pioneers and their history. Its aim is to increase awareness of Chinese American heritage through public programs, education and research; to bring together people with a mutual interest in the important history and historical role of Chinese and Chinese Americans in Southern California; to pursue, preserve and communicate knowledge of this history; and to promote the heritage of the Chinese and Chinese American community in support of a better appreciation of our rich, multi-cultural society.
Long-time Eng Family Benevolent Association member, California State Assemblymember Mike Eng of the 49th District, is scheduled to be the scholarship presenter. See last year's award ceremony.
Eng Family and Next Generation Group members, we need volunteers to help setup the headquarters for the luncheon and to help serve meals. We need to start at 11:00am or earlier. Please contact NGG President Tracy Quinto if you're available: tryq5@hotmail.com
