10th Anniversary APA Community Holiday Toy Drive & Reception
Help brighten the lives of underserved and underrepresented children during the holidays by attending the 10th Anniversary APA Community Holiday Toy Drive & Reception, on Thursday, December 3, 2009, 6:00pm-9:00pm, at the Japanese American National Museum, located at 369 East First Street, Los Angeles. Admission is to bring a new unwrapped toy worth at least $15 or minimum donation of $15/person. Co-hosting this annual event will be leading civic organizations and companies serving the API community of Southern California: APEX, APAWLA, JABA, LA18 KSCI-TV, ABA-LA, APABA, APALC, OCA-LA, PABA, SABA, SCCLA.
Holiday Reception with Judy Chu
Attend a relaxing and festive holiday reception to congratulate newly elected to Congress, the Honorable Judy Chu (pictured), on Saturday, December 5, 2009, 1:00-3:00pm, at the Garden Room of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, 244 South San Pedro Street, in Downtown Los Angeles. Special entertainment will be provided by jazz recording artist Ark Sano as guests will enjoy a delicious bento lunch, tamales and Chinese dim sum. For sale will be holiday gifts where a portion of sale proceeds to benefit non-profit organizations. The Hong Acting Workshop for Youth Groups
The Hong Acting Workshop supports youth! Take your acting skills to the next level with professional actor April Hong (pictured). Have fun this winter! Upcoming Youth Group Workshops for ages 8-17 wil be held Saturday, December 5, 2009, 11:00am-1:00pm, and Saturday, December 12, 2009, 11:00am-1:00pm, in Hollywood. Instructor April Hong's most recent acting credits include ER, Desperate Housewives, 90210, Cox Cable commercial, and Ninja voice in Red Alert 3. As a former child actor, she can meet the needs of youth who are pursing acting careers or simply exploring the art form. The workshop includes fun individual and group acting exercises, such as movement, vocalization and improvisation, for film, TV, voice overs, commercials, and theater. Build self-confidence through expressing yourself infront of an audience. Relate more effectively to others' feelings. Improve your speech. And, Learn focus, respect, and self discipline. Election for Association's 2010 Slate of Officers
Election for Association's 2010 slate of officers will be held after lunch on Sunday, December 6, 2009, at the Association headquarters at 418 Cottage Home, Los Angeles, CA 90012. Members are encouraged to exercise their right and make their voices heard regarding the leadership of the Association. For the office of president: Beverly Yu and Lance Eng (the one who garners the most votes will be president; the other vice president); for Women's Auxiliary Chair, Helen Ng. Remainder of slate of officers will remain unchanged.
Next Generation Group Holiday Dinner and Election
Outgoing NGG President Janice Ng invites all NGG members to attend a holiday celebration dinner on Saturday, December 19, at 6:00pm, at Hot Stuff Cafe, 315 So. San Gabriel Blvd., San Gabriel, CA 91776. We'll discuss our past achievements and the group's goals and aspirations for the coming year. Also taking place will be nominations and elections for NGG officers for 2010-2012. Positions opened are president, two co-vice presidents, treasurer and secretary. Dinner Honoring Tenny Ng and Peter Ng
Past President of the L.A. Chapter Tenny Ng has been elected the National Eng Family Benevolent Association Western Regional Grand President at the recently concluded U.S. Eng Family National Convention in September and Elder Peter Ng was appointed as Commissioner of the Overseas Chinese Commission of the Republic of China. To honor and celebrate their achievements, a dinner will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2009, at the Empress Pavilion Restaurant in Chinatown starting at 6:00pm. Dinner is $20/person.
